Knowing and Defending Your Rights
Standing up for our rights means more than knowing them. It means being ready and organized to defend them.
In 2025, Project South attorneys and organizers continued to stand alongside communities across Atlanta, the U.S. South, and beyond offering Know & Defend Your Rights trainings designed to equip people with the tools, strategies, and confidence to navigate encounters with law enforcement, federal immigration enforcement, and other forms of state repression.
By pairing legal education with community-based organizing, these workshops turn awareness into action, building collective strength that safeguards our people, histories, and futures.
In 2025 we partnered with powerful grassroots organizations and community hubs, including:
- Southern Fried Queer Pride
- SPARK Reproductive Justice
- Katrina 20 Movement Assembly
- ARC Southeast (Access Reproductive Care)
- Muslims for Social Justice
- Atlanta Brownsville Community Gathering
- Refugee Women’s Network
- 9to5
- Georgia State – Dunwoody Campus
- Kennesaw State University
…and several others across the South and nationally.
At a time when attacks on civil society and movement infrastructure continue to escalate, knowing our rights is essential—but being organized to defend them is what truly protects our people, our histories, and our futures. These workshops help build the collective strength and shared knowledge that movements need to thrive.
We believe rights education is movement infrastructure.
We believe our power grows when we learn together.
If your community or organization would benefit from a Know & Defend Your Rights workshop, we’d love to support you. Reach out to us!
