The Brownsville Futures Initiative is a land based practice for community governance of the Mutual Aid Liberation Center (MALC) at 9 Gammon partnership between Hunger Coalition of Atlanta & Project South. The MALC is a community center that provides direct services, community based education, and movement convergence drawing from and the history of Black Reconstruction in our neighborhood and throughout the US South.
Septima Clark Community Power Institute
Brownsville Futures continues to hold its annual Septima Clark Community Power Institute! SCCPI is a 4-week summer fellowship for Atlanta youth ages 13–18 focused on building:
✨ leadership
✨ critical thinking
✨ media making + advocacy skills
✨ community organizing skills
Participants will connect with other young people, organizers, educators, and activists, and even lead a real organizing process to help build youth power in Atlanta.
Umoja Garden
In partnership with the Hunger Coalition of Atlanta, Brownsville Futures helps steward our five-acre, south Atlanta farm. We provide free, organic produce to the community, and hold weekly garden days during the spring and summer, teaching residents how to plant and harvest their own healthy food!
